How Go Dipping Started

Go dipping was founded in 2023 but the first spark to the fire was ignited in 2020, Where a small group of people congregated on a beach in Wales to take part in the annual “new year’s day dip”.

It was very atmospheric on the beach, There was a real buzz in the air. I put it down to a mixture of pre dip nerves, meeting new people, fresh new year’s days resolutions, and lots of people hoping a dose of vitamin sea will cure their hangover!

After meeting lots of new people, varying in age, sex and personality it was time to get the speedos out and confront nature.

The sea certainly wasn’t calm, and it was picking with rain, which added to the mental battle.

I will later find out that all of these elements enhanced the feeling of accomplishment you get after stepping out of your comfort zone, and over ruling the dipping demons trying to brainwash you back into comfort.

We stepped into the seven degree sea together and ignored the voices in our heads (and some shouts from the comfort zone spectators on the beach) saying “what are you doing” “this is dangerous” and “you’re mad”

As we took a minute or two to climatize and build the courage, it was time for the shoulder submersion, 3, 2, 1 and down we went, initially the cold shock wasn’t pleasant, but it soon passed and morphed into euphoria as adrenaline and endorphins flooded our bodies.

As we walked back up the beach, with bright red skin, the feeling was indescribable, a natural high that left me feeling a massive sense of accomplishment and a craving for more.

This feeling couldn’t be reserved for just one day of the year, it was far too good.

Over the next two years I grew to gain knowledge and love for cold water therapy and its multitude of positive effects on the body and the mind.

It was after reading a book (multiple times) called  “the Wim Hof method” that my eyes were opened wide and it was time to use a combination of the Wim Hof method breath work and cold water exposure as tools to help me become the best version of myself.

What Wim Hof has achieved through dedication and the power of the mind is truly remarkable, But what I love the most is his determination to share his secret to inner fulfilment with the world.

It has certainly changed my outlook on life, which has lead to the creation of “go dipping”

Through “go dipping” we intend to bring people from all walks of life together to break out of their comfort zones, meet new people, push boundaries that they wouldn’t push alone, overcome fears and feel true happiness from personal growth and friendship.

"Go Dipping" is a term used to describe the act of trying new things, often on a whim or without any particular plan.
